Enjoy Burns Night when it comes; new poem with thanks to the Bard

(Adapted from Burns' My Heart's In the Highlands)

My Heart is In Assynt by Erik Zoha

My heart is in Assynt, my heart is not here;

My heart is in Assynt, shooting Suilven;

Shooting Suilven, Ben More and Quinag too,

My heart is in Assynt, wherever I go.

Farewell to Lochinver, farewell to Kirkaig,

Adopted home of poet Norman MacCaig,

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam,

The mountains of Assynt forever i love.

Farewell to the high hills covered in snow;

Farewell to the straths and glens down below;

Farewell to the gneiss and ancient sandstone;

Farewell to the torrents, waterfalls, lochs.

My heart is in Assynt, my heart is not here,

My heart is in Assynt, admiring Stac Pollaidh:

Admiring Cul Mor, Cul Beag, Canisp too,

My heart is in Assynt, wherever I go.

Cheers - thanks PBS, it was fun to write; read it out at an open mic night in Dundee tonight and it was well received. Good for me the original is out of copyright restrictions!
