What is happening in the East of Scotland.

Hi all, I'm sure someone can fill me in as to what is happening in places like Fife, and particularly The Wemyss, it's an area I have a great fondness for. Maybe because I met my Husband in Dunfermline. I have fond memories of driving all over the area when we were first going out (winching), but the price of petrol was a lot cheaper then, and my hubby wasn't retired. I know this mining area got a grant from Europe a good few years ago and wonder what they did with it. I would have hoped to see some regeneration of the fishing ports and such. Please let me know any interesting news/gossip on the area.
Cathy.

There is alot of money and effort going into the regeneration of Dundee over the next few years, keep an eye on that.
Also if you want a day out in the beautiful Perth it is their 800 years celebration this year with all sorts going to around that. On the 2nd July the Black Watch are doing a full ceremonial march through the street to celebrate ( its their HQ) and that is always a sight to behold. The gorgeous blonde is my husband and I'll be waving!.
Once you have watched them walk along George Street towards the town hall, the best independent shops are there (including my favourite a tea and coffee shop where you can taste and buy loose) buy an icecream in the local ice cream shop (locally made of course) then eat it looking out over the river from the park. Mmmmm that's just cheered me up thinking of it.
Thanks for the information, it will be handy to use for reference, not sure how much of the info I will be able to use but can pass it on if I can't use much of it. I do like "The Black Watch Ceremonial", and will try for that at least, my grand father was in the Black Watch, so there is a connection there. Again, thanks for the info.

You should ask Eric Zoha as well, he is a Dundee man and seems to be out and about quite a bit.
Hi Cathy,
They Wemyss has been updated!

East Wemyss had some new flood and coastal protection added in a number of years ago, go see Street View for this.

Where the yarn building was, there is now new houses: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geoc...

You'll see coastal protection here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geoc...

Apart from this, East Wemyss I gather is the same pretty much.

West Wemyss, pretty much the same...BUT, where all the windows used to be Black for them to make Parahandy, since the houses were derelict, they are now occupied, renovated, West Wemyss is an occupied village once again, and what a fantastic wee place it is too. See http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geoc...

I think the pub is gone now, could be wrong. I could also be wrong about the next one too, but it looks like the Belvidere is now empty! http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geoc...

Cheers

Hi AAron ,
I am just back from a wee visit with friends in East Wemyss or was it Buckhind? Not very sure, but the visit was grand. We had a wee walk while there and met up with members of 'Friends from the Wemyss' a web site by expats from the area. We were staying in a tiny house belonging to a friend in Buckhind. Thanks for the information though.

Multi-million pounds regeneration of Dundee waterfront ongoing due to be finished around 2020. Includes reconnecting city centre with harbour area, realignment of road network, doing away with much of the dual carriageway, axeing ugly Olympia swimming pool building, replacing it with an offshoot of London's V&A museum/gallery, which should attract thousands of new visitors and tourists and boost hotels and retail. More boulevards and squares and landscaping planned. Should be a big improvement. Ring-fenced financing to protect the development despite the economic cutbacks.
Also demolition of ugly skyscraper Tayside House building next year, improved council building Dundee House is part-completed now. Demolition of overhead walkways between rail station and Nethergate/High St Dundee.
Log on to Dundee City Council's feature webpage on the waterfront regeneration, webpage is -

At the risk of getting political, there is much positive going on in redeveloping central Dundee around the city centre and waterfront, also upgrading in the West End area around University, DCA, Dundee Rep. Hopefully inner city suburbs like Hilltown and Stobswell - where I live - will be next to have money invested in them.
